IUI - Intra Uterine Isemination

Artificial Insemination is the process of placing the sperm Into the uterus of the female.
Female factor : Abnormal cervical mucus, unexplained infertility, mild endometriosis, problems with ovulation.
Male factor : Retrograde ejaculation, ejaculatory problems, decreased motility, sperm count less than 30-35 million.

40-45% per cycle, 60-70% after 3-4 cycles of IUI.
Timing of IUI: When the follicle size reaches 1.8-2.0 cm, Inj. Hcg is given. IUI is done twice to increase the success rate.


IVF is a process by which egg cells are fertilized by sperm outside the womb, "Invitro" in a petridish. The fertilized egg-embryo is transferred into woman's womb to establish pregnancy.
Female: Tubal factor, severe endometriosis, decreased ovarian reserve and age is above 40 years.
Male: Severe oligospermia (decreased sperm counts less than 20 millions), decreased motility of sperms & sperm abnormalities.
Process: The treatment starts on day 2 or day 18 depending on the case. Gonadotrophin injections are given from day 2 for 8-10 days to get 4-6 eggs. The eggs are retrieved by ultra sound guidance under short anesthesia. The eggs and sperms are kept in a dish and are allowed to fertilize. After fertilization the embryo is formed and is observed for 3-5 days to detect any abnormalities. The good quality embryo is transferred in to the uterus, using a soft catheter in 2-3 minutes, After 15 days of embryo transfer, BHcg levels in blood are checked to confirm the pregnancy.

ICSI - Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection

ICSI is a process in which one healthy sperm is chosen and injected in to the egg directly microscope and allowed to fertilize. The fertilized egg-embryo is transferred into woman's womb to establish pregnancy.
Indications:
Female: Tubal factor, severe endometriosis, decreased ovarian reserve, eggs with thick zona (shell), previous IVF failure and above age 40 years.
Male: Decreased sperm counts less than 10 millions, sperm motility less than 10% and sperm abnormalities.
Process: The treatment starts on day 2 or day 18 depending on the case. Gonadotrophin injections are given from day 2 for 8-10 days to get 4-6 eggs. The egg are retrieved by ultra sound guidance under short anesthesia. The eggs are allowed to fertilize by injecting a healthy sperm in to the egg. After fertilization the embryo is formed and is observed for 3-5 days to detect any abnormalities. The good quality embryo is transferred in to the uterus, using a soft catheter in 2-3 minutes. After 15 days of Embryo transfer, BHcg levels in blood are checked to confirm the pregnancy.
